Chiropractic Terminology  |  Q
Q Angle: The Q angle determines the tracking range of the patella through the trochlea of the femur.  As the angle increases, the chance of a patellar compression problem increases.  It is called the Q angle because the measurement reflects the effect of the quadriceps mechanism on the knee.  It is a measurement of the angle between the quadriceps and the patella tendon.  This provides useful information about the alignment of the knee joint, which if outside of normal ranges, can be a precursor for overuse injuries.
Quantitative Computed Tomography:  This is an established technique for measuring bone mineral density in the axial spine and peripheral skeleton.  This technique can determine in three dimensions the true volumetric density of trabecular or cortical bone at any skeletal site.
Quality Assurance:  A radiation safety program developed in New York in 1991.  It placed stringent performance requirements on the medical and chiropractic professions.  Its purpose was to reduce radiation exposure and to optimize image quality.  This successful program is considered the gold standard and has been adopted by most states.
