Xeroradiography: An electrostatic image forming process in which x-rays form an image on a photoconductive insulating medium; the charged image areas attract and hold a fine powder called a toner, and then the powder image is transferred to paper and fused there by heat. The major advantage of the procedure is the enhancement between different density of bone and soft tissues, allowing for more detail than conventional films.
Zig Zag Deformity: An abnormality of the hands in patients that have rheumatoid arthritis, consisting of ulnar deviation at the metacarpophalangeal joints and radial deviation of the radiocarpal compartment of the wrist. Among the causes of this deformity is muscle or tendon imbalance. A zigzag contour may also occur in the interphalangeal joints in patients that have osteoarthritis.
Zonography: An x-ray imaging technique used to produce films of body sections similar to those made by tomography. A very narrow exposure angle of less than ten degrees is used in zonography, producing a safe focal zone of less than one inch in thickness.
Zygapophyseal Joint: This is the technical name for a spinal facet joint. The facet joint is made up two superior upward projecting surfaces of the lower vertebra interconnecting with two inferior downward projecting surfaces from the vertebra directly above. Facet joints link the bones of the spine together in the posterior or back part of the spine. Two facet joints are present at each spinal segment. The facet joints are important in controlling twisting, flexion and extension motions of the cervical and lumbar spine.
Yellow Ligaments: These ligaments are known as the ligamentum flavum. This yellow ligament is the strongest of your body’s ligaments. It runs from the base of the skull to the pelvis, in front of and behind the lamina and protects the spinal cord and nerves. The ligamentum flavum also runs in front of and surrounds the facet joint capsules. The yellow ligaments are rich in tough elastic fibers that limit and control proper movement of the spinal column.
Yochum's Notch: Development of asymptomatic posterior and superior notches on the posterior tubercle of the first cervical vertebra.
Yoga: This is more than just exercise. In simple words, yoga is a fantastic system for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. The whole system of yoga is built on three main structures: exercise, breathing and meditation. The exercises of yoga are designed to put pressure on the glandular systems of the body, thereby increasing efficiency and total health. Regular daily practice of all three parts of this structure of Yoga produce a clear, bright mind and a strong, capable body.
X-Ray Services: An imaging method that passes radiation through the body onto photographic films allowing the internal body structure to be visible. The films are used to diagnose fractures, dislocations, abnormal positioning or other structural abnormalities of the skeletal system. Chiropractors use these films to view the spinal column in the effort to locate and treat vertebral subluxations.
